Chocolate Syrup Brownies

½ cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 (16 ounce) bottle chocolate-flavored syrup
1¼ cups flour
1 cup walnuts, chopped
2 / 3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons butter
½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
Cream butter and sugar; beat in eggs. Blend in syrup and flour; stir in nuts. Pour into greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool slightly before frosting.
Quick frosting: Mix sugar, milk, and butter; bring to a boil and boil for 30 seconds. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate chips until melted. Frosting will be thin. Spread over brownies and cut into bars.
